The Gloved Hands

CAST:  4 hands, each wearing a different colored glove.
SCENE:  A red gloved hand on one side of the stage and three other colored gloves on the other side.

Once upon a time in our day, there was a gloved hand. A very fine gloved hand. He could wiggle his fingers and say "O.K." and do many good things. (GLOVED HAND POINTS AND OPENS HAND HEAVENWARD TOWARD GOD.) Because he was friendly, the gloved hand wanted to meet other gloved hands. (HE LOOKS AROUND AND SPIES MORE LOVED HANDS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STAGE.) So he went to visit them. (MOVES TO OTHER SIDE OF THE STAGE.)

But when the other gloved hands saw him coming they were not friendly. They decided that he was awfully strange looking. And he was not orange or green or yellow like them. He would certainly not fit into their group!

They shook their fists at him and pointed at him! They said, "Ugh Red glove germs! Don’t let him touch you! Stay away from him! Red glove germs! Blah!"

They made the red gloved hand feel so bad that he curled into a sad ball and cried.

The other gloved hands were glad to get rid of him. But still they wouldn’t leave him alone. "We must make sure he doesn’t come back," they said as they talked together. (HUDDLED TOGETHER) So they planned to beat him up and hurt him. That way he would know they were the boss, and he would not come back again.

Quietly the orange, green and yellow gloved hands sneaked up on the red gloved hand. (TO OTHER SIDE OF STAGE. NARRATOR EXCITEDLY.) They jumped on him, pummeled and pounded him with their fists, poked him and punched him! In fact, they pulled the red glove right off of his hand! (HAND JUMPS BACK COWERING. ALL STOP AND LOOK AT HIM.)

This surprised everyone so much that they couldn’t believe what had happened. The other gloved hands looked at the hand they were beating up. Then they took off their gloves and looked at themselves. Why, they were all the same on the inside!

Slowly, they all came together and touched gently as friends do. They helped each other feel very good about themselves.

And after a while they shook hands and went home promising to work and play together the next day.

Try different types of gloves and see what other creative situations and ideas can be explored.  This is a great outline for what could be a much larger presentation about how we all have different purposes in the body of Christ, but despite what could be thought of as different levels of importance, (After all, how could a boxing glove be as important as a work glove, and who really cares about the dishwashing glove?) God sees us all as being equally important.  "...so no one should boast..."
