CAST: Walter Cronkstein, Spectator, and David
PROPS: Microphone

WALTER: (TYPICAL NEWSCASTER VOICE) This is Walter Cronkstein coming to you over O.T.B. (Old Testament Broadcasting).  We are overlooking the valley of Elah in Judah where we have just leaned that some fellow by the name of David has just slain the Philistine giant Goliath who has been terrorizing King Saul's army for the last forty days.  We understand the Philistine army is now making a hasty withdrawal with King Saul's army in hot pursuit.  We will keep you posted on all the latest developments and will try to bring you live interviews... Wait a minute!  Here comes someone right now! Maybe we can get a word with him.  Sir! Sir! (ENTER SPECTATOR).

SPECTATOR:  What do you want?  Can't you see I am in a hurry?

WALTER:  Yes, I can, but can we have just a word with you?

SPECTATOR:  Well, alright.  But make it snappy.

WALTER:  Sir, did you see the young man, David slay the giant, Goliath?

SPECTATOR: Yeah, I saw it.  Boy was that a disgusting sight.  It was just a lucky shot.

WALTER:  A lucky shot?  Exactly what happened?

SPECTATOR:  Oh, that little shrimp, David, came out to meet Goliath with a slingshot.   Why, he didn't even have on any armor.  I told Goliath he had rocks in his head for making fun of Saul's army.  I told him...

WALTER:  Boy!  I'm glad HE'S gone.  (PAUSE) This just in! (EXCITEDLY) Saul's army has defeated the Philistines.  This is truly a triumphant day for God's people.  Crowds of people are beginning to gather right here near the battleground.   There will be a giant celebration and feast tonight.  Wait a minute!  I believe the young hero is coming this way!  (PAUSE)  David!  (PAUSE) Oh, David!  Walter Cronkstein with Old Testament Broadcasting News.  Can we have a word with you?  (PAUSE) David, how does it feel to be the one who killed the giant, Goliath?

DAVID:  Well, Walter, I can't take credit for it.  You see, the Lord gave me courage, and guided that stone to its target.

WALTER:  David, if you had that much faith in God, what were the other stones for?

DAVID:  Why, those were for Goliath's brothers just in case they wanted a piece of the action.

WALTER:  What did Goliath say to you when you met face to face?

DAVID:  He cursed and laughed at me and then called me a dog.  He shouted at me to come over.  He said he'd feed my flesh to the birds and wild animals.  He didn't seem ready to negotiate right then.

WALTER:  Wow!  What did you say, David?

DAVID:  I told Goliath that he was coming to me with a sword and a spear, but that I was coming to him in the name of the Lord, the very God he was defying.  I told him the Lord would conquer him.  Then I zapped him with a stone and that was it.  It was a nice shot, don't you think?

WALTER:  Fantastic!  I guess that just proves that if the Lord is for us no one can stand against us - for long anyway.  Thank you, David, for taking time to speak to our audience.

DAVID:  You're welcome, Walter.  So long, folks!

WALTER:  Goodnight, David.

DAVID:  Goodnight, Walter.

WALTER:  And that's the way it is, Sunday, June 29, 1063 B.C.
