CAST: Harry, Butch
PROPS: Butterfly net (Kitchen strainer works fine)
SCENE: Outdoor background. Harry and Butch on stage.
BUTCH: (EXCITEDLY) Jumping crickets! Camping out sure is fun, isn't it Harry?
HARRY: (RATHER BORED) Well it's not exactly like I thought it would be. Where
is the TV to keep me entertained? And how can I blow-dry my hair with no
electricity? And how am I ever going to keep warm tonight without my electric
powered toe-warmers?
BUTCH: Don't worry about such small unimportant things.
HARRY: But Butch--my hair! You call that small and unimportant?!
BUTCH: Well, um... just go and get the net and that will solve all your problems.
HARRY: A hairnet?! How is that going to solve anything? Besides I would
look funny in a hairnet.
BUTCH: Not a hairnet, a butterfly net, Harry! That will keep us entertained,
and meantime your hair can blow dry in the wind.
HARRY: Well, okay, but come and help me find it. The tent is getting pretty
messy!
(BOTH EXIT AND ENTER AGAIN WITH A HUGE BUTTERFLY NET.)
BUTCH: (EXCITEDLY) Isn't this great fun, Harry?
HARRY: (STILL BORED, SARCASTIC) Yeah, great fun, Butch.
BUTCH: Look there goes a butterfly! Catch it, Harry!
HARRY: (GETTING EXCITED) Got it! Wow! (LOOKS AT BUTTERFLY)
It's really beautiful. Look at these neat fuzzy polka dots all over its wings!
BUTCH: And look at those pretty colored stripes up its belly.
HARRY: (MORE EXCITED) Hey Butch, did you get a look at those little beady
green eyes? Who could ever have bothered creating such a little thing so beautiful?
BUTCH: Why, God did.
HARRY: God?
BUTCH: Yeah, God created everything. And you know, in Matthew 6:28, God talks
about the lilies of the field and how beautiful they are. And they never needed to
worry about how they got planted or how they looked. And in Matthew 10:29 God says
that not even one sparrow will fall to the ground without Him knowing it.
HARRY: Boy God must be pretty special to care enough to make the butterflies and
lilies so beautiful. And to think He even cares so much about a dumb little sparrow.
BUTCH: That's right Harry. And if He cares that much for those little things, think
how much more He cares for you and me.
HARRY: Yeah! God must think we're pretty special, huh, Butch?
BUTCH: Sure. So if we put God first, we don't have to worry about little
things like how we're going to keep warm, or what we'll be eating. God will take
care of us because he loves us!
HARRY: Boy, that's really neat. God sure is a super friend to have.
(LOOKS AT BUTTERFLY) You know, Butch, this butterfly that God created is so
beautiful that I am going to let it go.
BUTCH: Okay, Harry, but now what will we use the net for?
HARRY: I've got a great idea. (PUTS NET OVER BUTCH'S HEAD AND STARTS EXITING) Boy,
camping out sure is fun after all!
(BOTH EXIT)
